How Low Can You Go

Detox Day 4: A Little Bit of a Cheat

>> Thursday, June 30, 2011

I had that department lunch party today and it was a big deal. Food was all over. I ate salad (ok), but it looked super suspect when there was all this food at the table. So I caved and had a piece of turmeric chicken and this pureed lentil side dish. I figured it would be the best thing to have. Am I a failure? No! I think I did amazingly well. I could have said to hell with it butIi didn't. Sorry if any of you are disappointed, but I still cannot believe I made carrot muffins last night without tasting anything and they came out smashing, so smashing that they were all gone today at work!

I am proud of myself that I have come this far and I am eager to move on to day 5 tomorrow. Still haven't hit the gym in any way, maybe this weekend.

Have a great night!

Detox Day 4: Almost There

Day 1: 220.4....Day 2: 217 (-3.4)...Day 3: 214.8 (-5.6)...Day 4: 212.8 (-7.6)

Hello Readers,
I hope that this finds you well.  Today is day 4 of my detox challenge, as you can see from the numbers things are going well.  I am at 212.8 and have lost almost 8 pounds to date.  I am losing about 2 pounds a day and I hope the loss keeps up, it would be so cool to loss 14 pounds on this detox.  I am actually contemplating riding with this until I am get under 200 but I don't think that would be safe.

Last night I started to think about life after the challenge, will I be strong and able to "say no" to temptations?  What if I gain the weight back?  I will not lie when I say that I am a bit scared of what will come next.  I will have to take the next few days and sort out a plan for tackling, life after detox.

To all my fellow Canadians, Happy Canada Day tomorrow!  Take a moment to realize that we live in a wonderful country.

Will and Kate are gonna be here tomorrow, hmm I would love to head out tomorrow and catch a glimpse of what she will be wearing.

Later!

Detox Day 3: Recap

>> Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Today was ok. Just ok. I never realized how many people in the span of one day offer me food, I even had a lunch offer which never happens. I just say no, this detox is making me strong. I can make muffins and not have one, I can not taste the treats at work. I like this. Eating only fruits and veggies is not a walk in the park, I am still not my usual self and I also don't like lying so much, "yes, I ate already" is the line that I have used so much in the last three days it is really sad.
Today I ate:
-1 cup raspberries
-1 cup blueberries
-1/2 banana
-1 cup watermelon
-1 cup sweet peppers
-2 ears of corn

What do you think?

I had a few questions in my last post that I will address:

WootHoney-- Way to go on your carb free challenge. You asked how I deal with the cravings. To be honest I keep my mind busy. I go online, read, talk to friends or blog. I know that you are having issues feeling full ( I checked out your blog) all I can say is to try and eat foods that are denser, for example carrots or bananas. Drink more water! I hope this helps and I wish you all the best on your journey.

Amanda-- How much of my loss is water weight? I have no clue to be honest and I do not know if there is a way to measure this. All I can say is that the scale is moving which makes me happy.

MissFelicity-- I don't think that we would see a big difference if I posted progress pics.

Thanks again to everyone for all your support , I really appreciate it.

By the way, I have to go to that luncheon tomorrow, I think that I am going to have to bust an anorexic swag by taking food and pushing it around my plate. It makes me sad to do that, but I have committed to this challenge and I plan to stick with it.

I didn't make it to the gym, but I am cool with that maybe tomorrow.

On to Day 4!

Detox Day 3

Day 1: 220.4....Day 2: 217 (-3.4)...Day 3: 214.8 (-5.6)

So far so good. To be honest I did not know what I wanted to accomplish on this detox, but now that I am here I think it would be nice to get to 211. Now that I can eat fruits and veggies I am think of staying on this detox until I get back to my low of 208.

This is what I brought to work today, yummy!

I am feeling much better, eating the fruits and veggies has given me a boost. I was feeling a little sluggish. Maybe I will be able to sneak in a "light" workout. I will let you know.

Day 2: Almost Done

>> Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Didn't get to see Bad Teacher, it was sold out, boo. I am going to try again next week. Instead we sat down at a restaurant ( I had an iced tea*hangs head in shame* and two cups of mint tea). I hate lying to my friends, when they are eating and I have to lie and say that I have eaten already. Why do I not tell them? Because this just opens a can of worms. But, MissHaneefa you have already lost so much weight you look fine, you don't need detox, blah blah blah. Readers, you know how it is.

I am so happy that I can eat fruits and veggies tomorrow, I bought watermelon, mangoes, corn, peppers, yummy!

So excited! Can't wait for day three weight in in the morning.

Detox Day 2 Begins...

Day 1: 220.4....Day 2: 217 (-3.4)

Not bad, not bad.  I am much stronger today.  I have confidence that I can see this through to the end.  Tomorrow I can start eating fruits and veggies.  I am sticking to 6 small meals for the day and  read that I should stick to green veggies for the full detox effect. Specifically cruciferous vegetables, specifically broccoli and cauliflower.  I will go and shop for that later today.  I will pick up a watermelon (my favorite), some berries, a cauliflower, broccoli and lettuce. Corn on the cob is always good and baby carrots.

I think I will be set.

Thanks for all your supportive comments it means the world to me.

Tonight, I am going to see Bad Teacher, I am super excited.

Detox Day One

>> Monday, June 27, 2011

I did it.  I made it through Day 1.  I never realized how much food is discussed in a day.  Have you tried this...  I ate at this restaurant yesterday...Summer eats...Yummy treats... Sheesh...  My mom was cooking and asked me to taste something, I told her no.  I lied and said I wasn't feeling well.  I really don't like sharing my endeavors with others (well except you, but I don't really know you).

I didn't go to  the gym, I just chilled and took a nap.  We will see what tomorrow brings.  I am looking forward to eating fruits.

Have a great night.

Purple Rainin' On Dem!

Don't worry, he said it was alright once we got inside.

Up close and personal

You know that he had three or four wardrobe changes

The show started at midnight (at his request) and was at a venue that only holds 2,000 people.  He wanted a dance floor and an intimate setting.  The best part was that he did about 4 encores.  He looks great and he really is a great performer.

I am sorry, these pics aren't the best, think it is time for a new camera, but I cannot bear to part with this one!  Here are a few videos for your viewing enjoyment.

Who Knew That Detox Would Be Such A Problem...

Hello again, you can expect many posts in the 7 days that I will be doing this detox.  I guess not eating brings clarity.  I already have a dilemma.  Every year at the end of the school year the Head of Department has  a party for us.  This year she just told me that it will be on Thursday, UH OH.  Do I break detox, do I go and just drink water (I think it is going to be a sit down dinner though).  Do I say that I am "sick" and not go at all?  What should I do readers.  I could really use some help on this one readers.

Thank you in advance!

Seven Day Detox: Day 1 Begins

Day 1 has began and I am worried, can I really do this? I stepped on the scale and it said 220.4 yikes. I have fluctuating from 213-220 for months. It is sad, real sad. I disappointed in myself and I do have good intentions at heart, I am not sure why I can't just do this and get under 200...

I will blog later and write about my day. Hopefully I make it.

Looking got a good summer read? Just finished Tuesday With Morrie by Mitch Albom and The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls both are excellent. Since it is summer, I like to try and read one or two books a week (I find it hard during the school year, so I make up for it in summer) any suggestions? I would love to hear them.

Have a great day!

7 Day Detox Challange: Anyone In?

>> Saturday, June 25, 2011

I want to do a simple 7 Day Detox.  I have been thinking about it for a long time and I think that it would be a good way to kick start the summer.  I am thinking of starting on Monday, June 27th, is anyone interested? I read the details over at Tosca Reno's site. Tosca is the Queen of Clean Eating and is often featured in Oxygen Magazine.  Here is the break down of the seven days:

On days one and two, stick with liquids. Drink only water, water with lemon (or lime) squeezed into it, and herbal teas. It's a good idea to drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids daily up to a maximum of about 100 ounces (about 3 L) per day.

Days 3-7 you can add fruits and veggies.

Depending how I feel, I will try and stick to the liquids.

It seems simple enough.

I am going to maintain my workout scheduale during this time. (This is a very rough outline)

M- Tabata, spinning
T- body design, ab blast
W- Run
T- Zumba, Run
F- Hot Yoga
S- Sweatshop (if I can wake up in time, if not rest)
S- Run, Zumba

Is anyone in?

If so let me know.  I will record my Day 1 weight in and my weight in on Day 7.  As well as how I am doing along the way.  I wish I was more computer savy, I could make a cool badge.  I think that this could be fun!

When this is all over, I think that I am going to try hitting the gym twice a day or at least doing something active twice a day.

Let me know what you think!

Prom

>> Friday, June 24, 2011

Things have not been going so great, but I will save that for another post.  Most of you know that I am was a high school teacher and once again it was prom time.  I love this time of year because I get to see my girls all dressed up.  Here are a few pics.

Remember my Half Marathon buddy Jen? Here she is, we clean up pretty well.

One of my favorite students, she is looking fabulous, I am so proud of her.

Long dresses were definitely the trend this year, along with the color purple.  I also noticed many girls in lighter colors such as white, tan and peach.

In hot yoga news....

I made it to 4 out of the 7 days.  I am still going to try and go once a week.  Running has taken a back seat since I was so busy with school wrapping up the year.  Next week is my last week at work, so after that I am devoted to my health routine.

I no longer have a job as of July 1st.  After teaching for 5 years, I waslet go because two teachers with more senority than me are coming back from maternity leave. I hate to say that I think that I am going to get out of teaching, not enough money, too much work and not enough compensation.  I am going to go to a recruiter to help me work my resume to see if I can find a science related jobs, after all I do have a B.Sc.  The sad thing is that so many jobs want experience and how do you get experience if you cannot get a job? Catch 22.

I keep pushing and I will keep you posted.  I have Prince to look forward to tomorrow.

Take Two

>> Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Today was Day 2 of my seven day hot yoga challenge and I will not lie it was tough (I had done a 20 min run earlier), but I am getting better at the yoga poses. There are a few poses that I could not do (dancer) and now I am getting the hang of it, I am really impressed with myself, I am seeing improvements in my balance and flexibility.
Tomorrow I am going to achieve what I did not last week; Zumba, run and hot yoga. Wish me luck.

I am drowning in corrections and marking. Summer cannot come soon enough.

Friday is the prom at my school, once again I will have pics for you.

Saturday is the Taste of the Caribbean food festival. I will definitely have a post for you about that.

Have a great night!

Run Run Revolution

>> Monday, June 13, 2011

Last night, I happened to come upon Run Run Revolution™ a two hour special series following 10 inactive  Canadian middle school students (most are 13 years old) as they train to run in the youth section of the Boston Marathon (Relay and 5K).  The stars, however, are the kids themselves.  They are the faces of the next generation of Canadians, one whose state of health need not be dictated by fast-food and video games.
I was really impressed with these kids, they went from eating 2 bags of chips a  day and doing no exercise to running a 5K in 12 short weeks.  They trained for 3 months with their physical education teacher and they were all supportive of each other all the way.

There were some hilarious moment; when one girl showed up to the first practice in jeans and ill fitting running shoes.

The group came in second in the relay (there were 10 schools) and they were ecstatic.  They had never dreamed that it would have been possible.

A great special, Google it and I am sure you can watch it online.

Wearing a watch vs. Not wearing a watch.

>> Friday, June 10, 2011

Do you wear a watch when you work out?  I usually do.  Funny thing is last night I forgot to put my watch on when I went to hot yoga and the class seemed to go faster.

Do you fell that workouts go faster when you do not wear a watch?

On the weight lose front things are getting better. Last week a clocked in at 221 (sad) today I was around 214 (happy). 7 pounds in a week is great, but I am not getting excited until I get back to 211 and then 209.  That is when the REAL fun is going to start!   I know that the hot yoga really played a role in this loss, it shocked my body with something new and I was so thirsty after hot yoga (even the next morning), that I have been drinking ALOT of water.  I am so fed up of the 200's.  My all time adult life low is 203 back in 2003 and then it was 208 after the surgery I had in October (I WAS on a liquid diet for almost 2 weeks).  I am so close.  I know , you have heard this before so I will not waste your time.  I just have to keep this momentum going.  I think that I am going to sign up for the month long hot yoga, I really like it and it ads a new dimension to my workouts.

Happy Friday!

Teacher Love

>> Thursday, June 9, 2011

Hey! Hey! Don't you love getting an unexpected gift? Today I got this

From a fantastic student with a wonderful thank you card. It's a ceramic portable mug and since I am a science teacher it has the structural formula for caffeine, very cute.

Parents: you do NOT have to buy gifts for your child's teachers at the end of the year (but it is always nice). Just have you child write a thank you note or card. Have the child remember a funny class moment (in my class there are way more than I would like) or tell the teacher why that are special. It really means the world more than any gift. Trust me.

I have good news and bad news. Let me tell you the bad news, so the good news can cheer you up after.

Bad news-- I did not make it to Zumba, I took a nap instead (maybe that isn't REALLY bad news then...
Good news-- I did run 3k and then headed to hot yoga, I guess two out of three isn't bad. Don't know what it is, but I felt much better today. Maybe the humidity of the run and the hot yoga go to me yesterday, I don't know.*shrug*

Have a great night!

Welcome new followers! I love ya! Thanks for stopping by. Old followers, thanks for continuing to stop by!

Hot Yoga Hoe

>> Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Yes, I did it again. I went to hot yoga after running 3 k (well two hours later, not RIGHT after). I might as well have committed suicide. I think it was a bit much because the humidity today was off the chart, there were warnings and advisories. I actually had to pause during the class because I was so hot. You know I loved it.
Tomorrow I want to do Zumba with my favorite teacher, run 3k and take advantage of my last yoga class, am I crazy? You will just have to tune in to find out!

Hot Yoga: Night Number Two

>> Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Headed to hot yoga again today, this time I dragged a co worker with me, in the last week I have got her to run her first 5k (in 36 mins not too shabby) and try hot yoga. I know that she is cursing me on the outside, but loves me on the inside. Once again hot yoga was great! I really liked this teacher he was busting jokes left, right and center. He had the best analogies (imagine you are a teenage mutant ninja turtle and you are pressing into your shell). I love sweating, it makes me feel like I am really working out. I know some people hate it, bur something about sweat is sexy. That is my problem with yoga, you work for an hour and not a drop if sweat, I need to see/feel the sweat to be justified in my workout. The more the better. Hot yoga solves all that! I am definitely going to try it again tomorrow and Thursday. I am going to have to make a decision, I think I want to do this in the summer along with some gym time, just going to have to find some dough to pay for it... Decision, decisions....

Hot Yoga, Harder than a Half Marathon

They opened a new hot yoga studio near my home and they are offering free classes this week. I went last night to check it out and that shit is CRAZY!  You do yoga moves in a heated room for an hour.  I have never sweat so much in my life and I loved it!  I am not a fan of yoga but I think that I can really get into this.  The classes are a bit expensive, so I think that I am going to see what I can do so that I can go at least a few times a week.  For now I am going to attend a class every night until Friday when the free classes end.  That is my hot yoga challenge!

WTF?

>> Thursday, June 2, 2011

Stepped on the scale this morning; it has been awhile and it said 221, what the eff?  Guess I really got to focus.  Running a half marathon really means anything when it comes to the scale.  I wish there was some magic that because I ran a 21K I could have an instant slammin' body, but unfortunately the world does not work that way *sigh*
