How Low Can You Go

I am in a bad place, a really bad place.  I have zero motivation to do anything.  All I do is go to work, come home, watch TV and go to bed.  I don't want to blog, exercise or eat properly.  Things are out of control and I do not know what to do.  Today is day 14 of Hot Yoga Challenge and I have been about 8 times.   I just don't care.  I don't want to talk to my friends or family.  I cannot be bothered to make groceries.  I went for a trim on the weekend and she cut my hair unevenly.  So I had to go to another hairdresser and get my hair cut to even it out.  I was really trying to grow out my hair and now I am back to square one.  I hate it, I can't even look at myself in the mirror.  I know that it is only hair and eventually it will grow (who am I kidding, my natural hair grows as fast as molasses going up a hill in January).
I don't know what I need but I need something.

Hello bloggers, I hope that this post finds you well.  Yesterday was a really good day.  I went to a really great Bootcamp class at the gym.  I really love this teacher, she works us so hard. She used to teach CrossFit and incorporates a lot of those exercises unto her class.
Yesterday, was also the first day of my 30 Day Moksha Hot Yoga Challenge.  I did this challenge last year an I really liked it.  The challenge is to do 30 hot yoga classes in 30 days.  The class was tough, I haven't done hot yoga since the summer.  Funny thing is that the room wasn't as hot as I remember, that is a good think right!??  I struggled a bit with some of the poses, but that is my intention for the month to increase my balance and flexibility.
I am going to see Dj Jazzy Jeff tonight!  I am so excited!  The 90's was the B-E-S-T!  R and B, reggae, hip hop!  What more that a girl ask for!  Hands up if you remember: SWV, 702, Total?  Did you kill 112's "Cupid", jam to Warren G's "Regulate"?  YESSSSS!!!!!!  If I ever get married this is what I am going to be jamming at the wedding!

Lost

I really do not know what I am doing.  I am so lost with my weight loss  weight.  I am trying to get the motivation that I once possessed and get back to some sort of normal but, it is not working.  I am trying to eat better and cut back on the crap.  I am going to the gym and trying to make an effort, but honestly my heart is not in it.
I am going to be heading to hot yoga again for the 30 Day Challenge or the month of November.  I did it last year and it was really great.  I am hoping that this will give me some sort of motivation.

I Need A Life Make Over

>> Friday, October 26, 2012

This have not been going to so well for me lately.  The apartment I moved into a few months ago is falling apart.  Thank God they are FINALLY doing something about that next week, but it is depressing to come home to a place that looks a certain way and there is nothing that you can do about it.  I recently found out that I have to have a minor surgery and I am really scared.  I told my mother and she just made things worse.  Weight loss is none existent because I have aforementioned things to worry about.   With all the drama on the blog, I am wondering is it time to just wrap it up or like so many people here in blogland are doing should I just take a break?  What to do...what to do....

A Step In The Right Direction

>> Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Monday, I had my weekly weigh in for the gym's Biggest Loser contest and I lost 1.4 pounds (0.61%).  I am happy with that.  I am going to aim to have the same loss next week.  I also played Ultimate Frisbee on Monday night instead of going to the gym.  It was a really great workout and I am going to be a sub for the team during the winter season.
Besides that life is pretty boring.  Hope that all is well with you.  I apologize for the drama that has been happening around here.  I am touched that some of you said that you find me an inspiration, I never really thought of myself in that way *blushing*.
On a side note, I am going to be in NYC in a few weeks and my mother and I are going to see a musical, any suggestions?  I have seen Chicago, Wicked, Billy Elliot and How to Succeed in Business With Even Trying.  But I would love to see one or two shows when I am there.  I LOVE musicals!  Please let me know what you have seen and loved (or hated).  Thanks!

This weekend I travelled with 5 of my students, 6 hours on the bus to the cross country provincials   They girls did really well.  All of them beat their previous times and I even had one student who placed 25th out of almost 100 girls.  I am so proud of them.

Tonight is the first weigh in for the Pre-Holiday Biggest Loser Challenge, I will let you know how it goes.

Let's Try This Again

>> Tuesday, October 16, 2012

After losing a few followers after the last post, I have had time to think seriously about my next move.  I have never been good at taking constructive criticism.  Ever since I was young, that has been my weakness.  I do not like to be TOLD that I am doing something wrong, let alone told how to fix it.  As I have grown older I have realized that I do not know everything (shocking I know) and the only way to get better and improve myself is to listen to others and take their advice, especially when they know what they are talking about.  So I am slowing starting to get  back to my old ways eat better; more veggies, less carbs, more water, less cookies and getting back to the gym on a regular basis.
The gym is having a Biggest Loser type contest that is coined as a way to loss some weight before the holidays. I have entered this 7 weeks to lose the most % body fat and I hope that I can make some strides, my goal would be to lose 10 pounds, which would be about 4% body fat.
I tried Cardio Box last night and my upper body is feeling it this morning.

Thank you for all your comments (good and not so good), I do appreciate everyone that reads.  I really do.

just wanted to say, i like reading your blog bc you are so committed to working out it's crazy. The races you run inspire me because it is a struggle for me to run a mile so clearly you must be fit. The thing is, you clearly don't eat well. You might feel like you do but even the once in a whiles you say "it's a celebration so i don't feel bad etc etc" is insight to that. Oh and also, the scale doesn't lie... i mean it's not the whole story but there's no way a person works out as long as you do for such an extended period of time and won't lose weight. Case in point. My friend is a bodypump, body step and body attack instructor. She teaches about 7-8 classes a week bc she is always subbing for people. CRAZY fit and strong...but she never looked it. she didn't look fat but she didn't look like someone you'd say worked out a lot. weighed about 190 (although coz of all the muscle she looked about 175 to me). Anyway, someone challenged her to follow a eating plan a nutritionist had on Just Because...

This comment was left for me the other day.  Not sure how I feel about it.  There is truth to it BUT, I once weighed 272 pounds and I now weigh 226.  I have still maintained a 46 pound loss.  I am not going to justify anything because many things said here are correct.  That is all for today.

Hello Bloggers!
Things are going a bit better in this corner of the world. I am recommitted to my life and I am taking the proverbial bull by the horns.  In the back of my mind I always have that under 200 goal in my head and I am hoping that one day I can reach it.  Yesterday, I went HARD at the gym; 35 minutes of cardio, 35 minutes of weights, then i went to Running Room and did a group run.  We were tackling hills and we ended up doing almost 6 km.
As per usual road blacks stand in my way, after work today we are going for Indian and this weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving.  Pray for me.

I always feel like I am starting over, yet I refuse to give up.  I cannot believe that October is already here.  Where did September go?  I went for a run with the run club today and we did 5.5k , it is great to see the girls so happy about their distances.  I am really proud of them.

I sometimes feel like my body has given up on me. Whatever happened to the 10 pound loss months.  I feel like those days are long gone.  Just gotta keep truckin....

Over at All The Weigh it is Friend Makin Mondays and here are my responses.

 Uniquely You

1) Do you prefer to talk or text? I love talking.  But I like text because there are a few people that I may not talk to, but I will definitely text them.
2) How often do you make your bed? Once or twice a week (hangs head)
3) What sounds do you hear right now? Kids talking downstairs (I am in the staff room at work)
4) List three things that you always carry with you.  Cell phone, bank card, driver's licence
5) What are your favorite TV shows? Law and Order SVU, Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory and Amazing Race.
6) Is there a hobby that you’d like to devote more time to? If so, what is it? I wish I had more time to read.  I love books and in summer I can read one every few days.
7) What is your favorite drink?  Amaretto and Cranberry juice.
8) Share a couple of cool facts about your family. My parents come from Trinidad I am first generation Canadian.  My mother's name is Icis which is the Egyptian goddess of fertility.  My grandmother was looking for a name when she was pregnant and someone who worked on a ship had travelled to Egypt and heard the name.  Unfortunately, they didn't know how to spell it, it should be Isis.
9) List one thing that you will do for yourself today. Go to the gym and do some strength training.
10) Share something that you’re thankful for today. That I am fit enough to run 5.5k.

Enjoy!  Happy Monday!

My THIRD Half Marathon

>> Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Last Sunday, I ran my THIRD half marathon.   How did that happen?  How is it that I have done THREE half marathons?  I don't usually toot my own horn, but I am going to take a minute to do so.  I have been running for a little over two years now and I am proud to say that I may not be the fastest, but I am so happy with what I have accomplished.  Three half marathons, three 10k and a bunch a 5k races and I am still standing, I am still strong!
This race went much better than then that I did in May.  My ankle was hurting a it, but not as much as it was in May.  I had new shoes and I really think that helped.  My only complaint was that I was cold.  I wore a short sleeved shirt because I knew that I would get warmer and I expected the weather to warm up.  The weather never warmed up and it was windy, since many parts of the race course was by the water.  I finished with a time of 2 hours and 42 minutes.  Not bad, not bad.  I have to admit that I did not train (I know bad girl) and in fact the last long run that I did was the last half marathon race I did in May (hangs head in shame).  I vow that I am going  to run the Half next May in Ottawa I am going to train like a mother and come out with a new personal best.

Here are a few pics from the race:

The second and third pic crack me up. I did that when I say the finish line.

My legs are done, I am in so much pain.  When I laugh or cough it hurts also.  I guess that I really worked my core when I ran.  This week I am just walking on the treadmill on an incline to get back in the game.

You are suppose to rest for one day per mile ran.  But to rest for 13 days seems a bit much for me.  So I am just taking it easy.

Run club is going so well, I am doing some speed work and Bootcamp with the girls tomorrow.  We are having our first inter school race even next week, I will let you know how we do.

I am going to get back into racing.  I missed it so much.

Have a great day!

Running Club is a Hit!

>> Thursday, September 6, 2012

Yesterday I had my first Running Club meeting with my students.  I was stunned by the number of students that I had.  About 30 girls came out, that is over 10% of our school population.  We went for a short 15 minute run just to get the girls accustomed, I also wanted to see which girls were stronger runners. Let me tell you that there are a few really fast girls.  A few had to walk for a bit, but that was no big deal.
I was really thankful to have another teacher with me to help with the group.  She stayed at the front and I stayed at the back.  It was really hot yesterday so the girls learned a few lessons right of the bat, they learned that you cannot dress to warmly, i.e. no pants (I explained to them that when you run it feels 10C warmer than the temperature is outside).  I also explained that they will have to bring water if it is going to be that hot again.

We have a parent information night for the school last night and I saw a few parents of girls who had come to run and they said that their daughters were so happy with the club and they were super excited.  This made me feel like a million dollars.  I am elated to see young women getting active and having a good time.

It is almost the weekend!  Woot woot!

Bye Bye Summer

>> Wednesday, September 5, 2012

I have made it to Day 8 of the 30 Day Shred and all I can say is that I am anxious to get to Level 2.  I didn't make it to Sexy Dance but I heard that it is a pretty good workout so I am definitely going to try to get there next week.  I went to  http://alltheweigh.com/ found an old Friend Making Monday post and decided to answer the questions since this blog post was boring. Since summer is pretty much over I decided to reminisce on the good times.

Summertime

1. What is your favorite thing about Summer? No work (one of the perks of being a teacher) and usually great weather.
2. What is your favorite outdoor activity? Running or taking a walk.  I am also a fan of team sports.
3. If you had to choose, would you prefer to be too hot or too cold?  Too hot all the way.  I hate being cold.
4. Does your appetite increase or decrease during warmer months? I feel like it decreases, but there are so  many BBQs and birthdays that I end up eating more.
5. What is your favorite seasonal Summer fruit? Watermelon and strawberries.
6. Would you prefer to spend a hot summer day at the mall or at a swimming pool? Swimming pool all the way
7. Are you more likely to tan or sunburn? Tan I guess.
8. How does your routine change when Summer begins? I get to wake up later and go to bed later.  I also get to work out more. Read more and watch more TV.
9. What is the temperature outside where you are today? 27C or 81F
10.  What is your favorite Summer holiday? My birthday does that count????  I guess Canada Day.
Until I see you next year summer, bye bye!

Gym Schedules and A Compliment

>> Tuesday, September 4, 2012

I hope that everyone had a great long weekend.  I went to a spa on Saturday and had a great time.  I had a mud wrap, a facial, a manicure and a pedicure.  I felt like a million dollars when I was done.  Funny how just a little bit of "me time" can make you feel like a new person.

I went to Bootcamp last night, it was killer (and I followed it up with Day 6 of the 30 Day Shred).  The gym has come out with their new schedule for the fall and I am not happy.  I am never happy when new schedules come out because they always make changes and there is always something that I do not like.  I get used to a certain teacher and when they change that I get upset.  They cancelled my Monday night Zumba and Monday night Bootcamp.  They added a class called "Sexy Dance" on Tuesday and you know that I am going to have to check that out.*sigh* so is life.

I was in the pharmacy the other day and an older woman walks up to me, "Is your name Haneefa?"

"Yes."  I reply, meanwhile my mental Rolodex is working overtime.  Is this a parent of a students that I have taught? Is it a former co worker?  Is it a stalker?  I have a pretty good memory and she did not come up at all.

"I am Debbie B's mom."  Just to let you know that Debbie was my good friend in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!  When I say that I look the same as I did when I was 10 I am not joking.  I have to find a pic of me when I was young and post it for you to see.

"I have seen you a few times and I was always tell Debbie that you are so pretty and tall and slim."   Woah, woah , woah pause. SLIM!  MOI!  WOW!  I find it so funny that people see you so different than you see yourself.  In a million years I would never call myself slim.

I am really trying to make a conscious effort to work on my hair.  I have been natural for a few years now, but I can never get any real length.  I am not a hairy person and I know that  I will never have long hair, but I am really going to try this month and get some growth.  I would like to have a big fro a la Measha Brueggergosman, a Canadian opera singer.
This is what I want!  Is that too much to ask for!

I am very lackadaisical when it comes to my hair and I really need to pay more attention and take better care to get a bit more growth.

I am also trying to go out more.  I would really like to be a happier person and part of that is going to be going out to new places and meeting more people.

I hope that everyone is having a great day!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!

Life is good.  I am really excited because I introduced my running club to my school and I have over 24 students that are interested.  I am so pumped.  I really hope that I can make this running experience a really good one for them.  We are thinking of entering a team in the Color Run.  Take a look:

We are blessed to have our school near a lake, so I am going to take them to run by the water.  So excited!
In 30 Day Shred news, I did Day 2 yesterday and it is going really well.  For the first time I was shocked when the video was over.  I never would have thought the day would come when I would say to Jillian, "That's it!?"  I am still struggling with the push ups and the bicycle crunches.  I am eager to move on to Level 2.
The scale is slowly moving in the right direction and I am optimistic about my 216 goal for Sept. 10th.
I wish you all a great holiday weekend!

By the way, the image for this post inspired me to go to the gym. My original plan was to hit the couch after work. Thanks for the motivation.
I realized that I hadn't done anything yesterday.  So I decided to dust of good old Jillian Micheals' 30 Day Shred, it really wasn't as bad as I remember.  Man, you really sweat like a mofo in 30 mins 27 minutes!  I also got in all my water.  It is funny how once you start doing something in the right direction, you have such a wonderful sense of accomplishment that you cannot help but continue the trend.

I have been looking for a new pair of running shoes.  These are the ones I have my eye on:

They feel like I am walking on pillows.

My goal is to have them run a 5K in November.  I really think that they can do it.  Wish me luck!

Inappropriate Questions

>> Friday, August 24, 2012

HAPPY FRIDAY!

I found this on Tim's blog and I know I am late, but better late than never.

Inappropriate Questions

1. Will you vote in the upcoming presidential election? No! because I am Canadian, but we are having a provincial election in Quebec on Sept. 4.  I will be voting in that.
2. Do you say curse words? When I am not at work I do.  But I try to keep it to a minimum.  I was once asked it I was a devote Christian because my friends and I did not swear as much as other women!?
3. Have you ever kissed a stranger? Yup, not recently though.
4. If you could choose to meet only one fellow blogger in person right now who would you choose? Hmmmmmm, I find Ro and and Reiko so hilarious.  I would love to meet them.  Trina cracks me up also.
5. What is the most inappropriate pick-up line that anyone has ever used on you? Yes!  This is the one that will forever stand out in my mind:
Guy: What is the chance that we will have sex tonight?
Me: Ummmm, 0%
Guy:  Really?  Not even 8%
Me: Ummm, nope.
Guy: 5%?
Me: Wow, I have NEVER been asked that in my life!
6. Do you sing in the shower? Yup!  I love it.
7. How often do you get drunk?  Not often, hate a horrendous experience in 2008 that really made me not drink as much when I partied.
8. Have you ever been fired from a job?  Nope!
9. Were you popular in high school? I won't say that I was popular, but I did get along with EVERYONE.  I used to like to stand up for the little guy.
10. Who is your current celebrity crush? Idris Elba is so dreamy and that accent *faints*

Two weeks ago I was elated, I had reached 217.  Monday, it all came crashing down.  I felt like the Canadian 4 x 100 relay team at the Olympics this year, when they thought they won the bronze medal and then realized that they were disqualified.  I weighed in at 226.8.  That is almost 10 pounds in two weeks.  I have no one to blame for this but myself.  I still can't get over how my body puts on weight so fast.  It is really sad.  How could have have just thrown away everything that I had worked so hard for...
Now that I have done crying, I realized that I have some serious work to do.  I am going to the gym twice a day (and eating right) until I get back down to 217.  It is not easy to get out of bed at 6 am to head to the gym.  I do A LOT of the prep the night before.  The first night I did it guess what I forgot to pack?  No not my running shoes...no not my iPod...MY UNDERWEAR!  So after I showered I had to go commando for the day (BTW why do they call it commando? Do people in combat not wear underwear? Just asking).   I have been doing it since Monday for the last few days and it is not a joke. But I told myself I would do it and I am sticking to it.

I also found this on the Oxygen Magazine Website

#5 hit my when my friend told me over the weekend that she wants to start running because she saw what it to my body.  I was so surprised that someone would look at me as an inspiration.  When there are so many times that I feel like a semi-failure.

Happy Wednesday!

So Where Do I Begin....

Shit has hit the fan, it was my birthday last weekend and bdays + healthy living = NO BUENO.  Friday, I went to the movies. Saturday, I went out for a night of dancing and a few drinks.  The result, today I am up almost 4 pounds.  *Sad face*  this is my last week of vacation before I go back to work.  I am trying to relax before I get back into the school year. I hope that everyone is having a good week.
