How Low Can You Go

Stepped On The New Scale

>> Monday, October 7, 2013

I bought this fancy smancy scale at IKEA last week:

It is a scale and a clock, cute isn't it?  I knew I had to buy from the time that I saw it.  I steeped on it this morning and saw 243. To be honest I thought it was going to be much worse.  I think when I left home a month ago I was around 237-238.  Also, I was once 272 so I think that I can deal with this.  Now that I have an apartment and by the weekend I will have a fridge and stove, I will go and make groceries, start to cook and make yummy, healthy lunches this number will go down.

I have to now get up at 5 am to leave at 5:45 am.  This morning when I was leaving I saw two ladies running, I was so jealous.  When I get home from work it is still too hot to go.  I am going to have to work something out to get back on track.

Thanks again for reading!

i really think you need to pull it together. You've been making a lot of excuses for the last year or so. Okay, it's hot in Abu Dhabi - so what? Why are you jealous of other ladies running? Go run yourself, or if your body needs to adapt to the heat, walk instead! You'll still get a workout. I mean, you'll sweat and it'll be uncomfortable but you just take along a ton of water and make sure to stay dehydrated. When you get home take a shower.

Losing weight and staying fit requires EFFORT and your body is certainly not just going to magically adapt to the heat by staying indoors. If all that's available is running/walking in the heat, then run/walk in the heat. That's the mindset of successful people.

Actually, all that is neither here nor there, you can make a huge difference by trying to work on your nutrition. Even if you don't have time for exercise right now or it's too much for you.

Maybe try posting what you eat daily? Or keep a record of it. Do you have friends there? Do you have things to do? I ask because maybe your are eating a lot out of boredom or loneliness.

Either way, this was supposed to be a fresh start. And yes, at 243 you are lower than the 272 you were before. But you need to look at trend and not absolute numbers... you've been trending upwards for a while which means you'll eventually get back to 272 if you don't halt this progression soon!

Last tip - maybe look for a pool...that might feel more enjoyable than running in the sun and you'll get a good workout too.

You know what you need to do and I have confidence you will do it. Now that you have the option of cooking again, getting your nutrition back on track will be the first step. A healthly lifestyle is 80% nutrition 20% exercise.

Post some of your yummy recipes. I'm always looking to try something new.

That scale had me confused until I saw he digital par at the top of it. LOL! Getting outdoors may no work out easily, but you can hit an awesome strength training workout indoors in 15 minutes or less.

I once stepped on a glass scale and it broke, apparently 400 lbs is too much for it.

Mimi and Dawnya are right, you have to start. Just start something. Walking or swimming, especially if the heat is your biggest concern. But saying you gonna eat better and eventually get around to running or working out again isn't enough. The hardest part is just getting started. Mimi may have hit on the perfect solution for you by suggesting swimming. I would take her advice on that one.

Good luck. You can do it!
